We are inviting the entire Elbow Valley Community to join in the fun this holiday season by building awareness for our holiday service project. This year has been particularly difficult, and we wanted to introduce a fun and light-hearted concept that brings the community together, while simultaneously helping to raise donations for the organization selected this year: The Calgary Food Bank.
We are asking residents to start a new tradition and hide a flamingo in their outdoor holiday decorations. Ok, so you might be thinking…why a flamingo?!! We chose a flamingo because it’s funny, different, and it stands out from the usual holiday decorations. This way, it will be clear that you are supporting our project. These flamingos should not be the centerpiece of your holiday display…although it might be tempting! Rather, the flamingos should be visible, but challenging to find. We encourage residents try and scout out the flamingos and find them all throughout our community as they view the outdoor holiday light displays.
So now you might be thinking…I don’t have a flamingo! We know it’s not your usual holiday decoration…and that’s the whole point! If you choose to donate, you will receive a flamingo to show your support. However, you can also get creative and find/make/buy your own feathered friend and put it on display!
We are hoping that this project brings Elbow Valley together in celebrating the whimsical fun and joy of the holiday season! We are hoping that this unique project will get people talking about and donating to our service project.
